# Attest vs Youtrust (formerly Yousign)

Attest is the better choice when the contract itself must stay private and the proof must outlive the vendor: every document is end-to-end encrypted so Attest can't read it, each signer signs with a passkey only they control, and every party gets a signed copy that verifies without Attest, for $5 a month for 20 documents. Youtrust, the new name of Yousign, is the better choice when you need advanced or qualified eIDAS signatures from a qualified trust service provider, and its One plan is €9 a month billed yearly (€11 month to month) for 10 signature requests a month, excluding VAT, as published on October 12, 2026.

## Yousign is now Youtrust

yousign.com now redirects to youtrust.com. The company says its name changed from mid-May 2026, its website moved in mid-July 2026, and its application will migrate "by 2027". Youtrust SAS is based in Caen, France, was founded in 2013 and says it serves "over 30,000 companies across Europe". It is a qualified trust service provider: France's trusted list grants its qualified signature, qualified seal and qualified timestamp services.

Attest is built around a different promise: proof anyone can check, on documents only the parties can read. Youtrust's prices below are as published on October 12, 2026, excluding VAT; its other details are as published on its own pages on October 11, 2026.

## Signature levels under eIDAS, in brief

This is general information, not legal advice. Across the EU, [eIDAS](https://eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/EN/TXT/?uri=CELEX:02014R0910-20241018) says an electronic signature can't be denied legal effect or admissibility as evidence just because it is electronic or not qualified (Article 25(1)). Only a qualified electronic signature has the legal effect of a handwritten one (Article 25(2)), and a qualified signature from one member state is recognized in all others (Article 24a). National law decides which documents need written form, a qualified signature or a notary. In France, for example, only a qualified signature is presumed reliable ([Décret 2017-1416](https://www.legifrance.gouv.fr/jorf/id/JORFTEXT000035676246)); with other signatures, the party relying on one shows the process was reliable if it is challenged.

Attest signatures are electronic signatures, the base level (Article 3(10)) that is recognized for most agreements. Their strength in a dispute is evidence: each signer's own passkey signature over the exact document, the audit trail and a public blockchain anchor. Where a law requires a qualified signature, use one; Youtrust sells them from €10 each, excluding VAT, as published on October 12, 2026.

## Privacy: who holds the key

Youtrust describes encryption at rest "with a 256-bit key managed by Youtrust" and TLS in transit, and says its solutions "are exclusively hosted in France". For buyers who want their data kept in France, that is a real advantage. A key the vendor manages, though, means the vendor's systems can decrypt the documents they store.

Attest encrypts every document in your browser before upload, with AES-256-GCM, and locks its key separately to each party's own key, so documents are decrypted only in the parties' browsers. Attest stores your document only as ciphertext it can't read. We compared 21 e-signature services in October 2026, Attest and 20 others, and [Attest was the only one](https://attest.datahubz.com/compare/which-e-signature-services-can-read-your-documents) that end-to-end encrypts every document, for every signer, by default.

## How signers sign, and how identity is checked

On Youtrust, signers have no account: they open the link in their email, and the sender can add a one-time code by email on every plan, or by SMS on Plus and Pro at no extra cost. For an advanced signature, the signer uploads an ID that Youtrust verifies and confirms with an SMS code; for a qualified one, a remote video identification is verified by facial recognition and human agents, in under 15 minutes.

On Attest, every signer approves with a **passkey**: a cryptographic key only the signer controls, unlocked with Face ID, Touch ID, Windows Hello or the device PIN. The passkey must confirm the signer was present and verified, and it signs a statement naming the exact document, by its fingerprint, and everything the signer entered. The evidence ties each signature to the invited email address and the passkey set up from it.

## The proof each party keeps

Youtrust generates a PDF audit trail per signer, with identity data, IP addresses, the authentication used and the signed PDF's fingerprint, and archives audit trails for 10 years with Arkhinéo, a third-party archiver. The audit trail "is available to account users who have access to the signature request (external signers and approvers do not have access)". In Adobe Acrobat, Youtrust's own blog explains, a green tick needs a certificate on the EU or Adobe trusted lists.

On Attest, every party, every signer included, downloads the same sealed PDF: the signed pages, with a "Signed with Attest" stamp on each signature and a seal line at the foot of every page, a certificate of completion, the audit trail up to completion and a "Verify it yourself, without us" page, with the full evidence, the original document and a standalone verifier attached inside. Anyone can drop it on that verifier in a browser, even if Attest no longer exists: it checks the original document against what every signer signed, each signer's passkey signature and entries, Attest's anchored record on Horizen, and that nothing was added after sealing, and it re-makes every page you see from what was signed and compares the result byte for byte.

Each signer can also share a zero-knowledge proof that they signed an agreement, and the date it was completed, without revealing the document; each proof is verified on zkVerify. Youtrust doesn't offer this.

## Price

Attest's price is in US dollars: at the European Central Bank's reference rate of October 9, 2026 ($1.1206 per euro), $5 is about €4.46.

| | Attest | Youtrust (October 12, 2026, excluding VAT) |
| ---------- | ------------------------ | -------------------------------------------------------- |
| Free | 2 documents, in total | 2 signature requests a month |
| 10 a month | $5 a month (about €4.46) | One: €9 a month billed yearly, or €11 monthly |
| 20 a month | $5 a month | Plus: €23 per user a month billed yearly, or €30 monthly |

Youtrust's qualified signatures cost €10 each in bundles on yearly plans and €15 each on monthly plans, excluding VAT, as published on October 12, 2026. Attest's plans are month to month, and you can cancel any time.

## When Youtrust is the better fit

- **You need advanced or qualified signatures**, for documents where national law requires them or where you want the handwritten-equivalent effect of a qualified signature across the EU.
- **You need signers' identity verified** with an ID document or a video identification.
- **You want a European provider**, with data hosted in France and evidence archived for 10 years by a third-party archiver.
- **You send in bulk or work in teams**: bulk send on Plus and Pro, workspaces, a Zapier connector and a HubSpot integration.

## Who should choose Attest

- **Teams with confidential agreements** who want no provider, European or otherwise, able to read them: every Attest document is end-to-end encrypted in the browser.
- **Signers who want their own proof**: every party gets the sealed copy and its evidence, not only the account that sent it.
- **Ordinary business agreements** where an electronic signature with strong evidence is enough.
- **Small senders**: 20 documents a month for $5, against 10 requests for €9 to €11 on Youtrust One (excluding VAT, as published on October 12, 2026).

## Starting on Attest

Sign in with your email, set up your signing key with a passkey and a recovery phrase, upload a PDF of up to 8 MB, add your signers and place their fields. Your first 2 documents are free, in total.

## Questions people ask

Is Yousign the same company as Youtrust?

Yes. Yousign says its company name changed to Youtrust from mid-May 2026 and its website moved to youtrust.com in mid-July 2026; yousign.com now redirects there. Its application migrates "by 2027".

Can Youtrust read my documents?

Youtrust encrypts stored data "with a 256-bit key managed by Youtrust", as published on October 11, 2026, so its systems can decrypt the documents they store. Attest encrypts every document in your browser and stores it only as ciphertext it can't read.

Is an Attest signature valid in the European Union?

Electronic signatures are recognized for most agreements in the United States (the ESIGN Act and UETA) and the European Union (eIDAS). Some documents, such as wills or certain notarized deeds, have special rules in many places: check yours. Attest signatures are electronic signatures, the base eIDAS level; where national law requires a qualified signature, Youtrust sells them from €10 each, excluding VAT, as published on October 12, 2026.

Do signers get the evidence on each service?

On Attest, yes: every party downloads the same sealed copy, with the full evidence and an open-source verifier inside. Youtrust says its audit trail is available to account users with access to the request, and that external signers and approvers do not have access, as published on October 11, 2026.

Which costs less?

For 10 or 20 documents a month, Attest: $5 a month, about €4.46 at the ECB rate of October 9, 2026. Youtrust One is €9 a month billed yearly, or €11 monthly, for 10 requests a month, and Plus is €23 per user a month billed yearly, excluding VAT, as published on October 12, 2026. For 2 a month, Youtrust's free plan costs nothing.
